An Interpretative Phenomenological Study on the Marriage Maintenance Experiences of Couples with a 10-Year Age Gap or Greater: Focusing on Younger Wives¡¯ Experiences

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the marital maintenance experience of married couples with a 10-year age gap or greater, focusing on the younger wives¡¯ perception.
Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with six younger wives, and the data was analysed based on interpretative phenomenological analysis.
Results: A total of 5 large themes and 16 small themes with components were derived: ¡°into a more comfortable place than now,¡±; ¡°with others attentions followed always,¡±; ¡°sometimes we are considered under the same title ¡®married couple¡¯, but sometimes not,¡±; ¡°going into husband¡¯s time,¡±; and ¡°role of caring changes due to physical limitations.¡±.
Conclusions: This study is significant in that it raises the academic understanding of the marital relationship where a large age gap instructs basic data for couples counseling for those couples.
